Longboarding - Skateboarding's Soulful Subculture 2007/08/17 07:17 Karma: 5
This thread discusses the Content article: Longboarding - Skateboarding's Soulful Subculture

Longboarding offers a great way to keep your balance and form up for snowboarding in the off-season. I find that after a summer of longboarding, I can get back into the groove of snowboarding just a little bit quicker. Anyone else find this is the case?

If nothing else, longboarding keeps you in great shape!

I'd love to give it a go. So Stevo? Is it easier to ride a longboard than it is to ride a skateboard. I am thinking it may be more stable.

Hey Sach,

Yes...longboards are inherently more stable in their ride characteristics. I find the extra length and also the flex in some longboards make them a little more forgiving from a balance perspective.

Give it a go if you get a chance! It's great to just get out there and cruise around on a patch of smooth pavement.

Hey Stevo,

So say for beginners who want to purchase their first longboard skateboard, would it be better to go Canadian maple or get a fibreglass board. Is it a much of a muchness?

Thanks!

Yo Sach,

Good question! Acutally I am partial to the new Bamboo longboards. They seem to be stronger and lighter than the maple longboards and offer some really nice flex characteristics. I like the idea of sticking with organic materials as it somehow goes with the soulful nature of the sport.

It's amazing the finish that can be produced on the bamboo longboards too! They are truly a piece of art when they are completed. I have ridden both maple and bamboo longboards and the bamboo longboard gets my vote right now.

My favourite longboard right now for carving up the asphalt is the Lush Kilima that has these specifications:

Length: 117cm / 46 inches
Width: 24cm / 9.5 inches
Wheelbase: 88cm / 34.5 inches
Shape: Drop through pintail,cambered,concave
Material:Vertically laminated bamboo/Horizoltally laminated Canadian maple composite
