Living in Style.. Pet Style 2007/10/02 04:45 Karma: 7
This thread discusses the Content article: Living in Style.. Pet Style

I can identify with a lot of what you have written in your article.
Many people have commented the only reason I bought a house was to accommodate Bobby and his requirements for a backyard. Thus I am stuck way out west!
Bobby's grooming sessions every couple months works out to about 4 times more than my haircut, his medication and vet fees exceed my own bills by a factor of 4-5.
Yes our pets are spoiled! I am sure if I had a child they too would be spoilt, but I think prices are astronomically high for products for the reason that owners will pay exorbitant prices for a product without too much fuss. I wonder if the Walmarts of the human consumer world will see the opportunity to get in there and try to target pet owners with a discount store which will hopefully drive down prices elsewhere.

ah... but there is a Petsmart in the US which is like the Walmart for pets. I am sure you have been there to check out stuff for Bobby !!

I remember blowing a whole fortune in that store when I was there. The person must have though I owned a whole herd of dogs instead of one pampered pooch !!

If only they had it in Australia and Singapore as well huh. But in Singapore, there is Pet Lover Center which is like a small scale Petsmart. They have an online store and they do delivery as well.

Yep I have been to Petsmart, it's a huge franchise with warehouse type store setups, but I don't think they are pet equivalent of Walmart. Prices are good, but they don't discount significantly over other pet stores. I walked into a store a couple times, and for the space which I am guessing they are paying a hefty rate, there isn't the volume of customer that you find at a Walmart, so I can't see them moving product quick enough to significantly discount.
I guess if you can afford a pet, you can afford to pay a premium for petcare products.
