This thread discusses the Content article: F1: Racing or Business

You are probably going to find this hard to believe, but I actually like watching F1 races as well !

My mom used to think I was crazy siting in front of the TV, watching the drivers spend hours going round and round 40 over times around the same track and still feel excited. But she does not realise that no two rounds are ran exactly the same way, even if the driver is the same and there is always the excitement like when a driver tries to overtake another driver or when there is a mishap on the road (ok, I know this is alittle wierd, its kinda like watching hockey games as well, where the highlight is when a fight breaks out between the 2 teams ! No fights make for a boring watch !)

The latest race in Turkey on August 26th was pretty interesting, what with Lewis Hamilton's punctured tire flapping in the wind and Felipe Massa's narrow win from Kimi Raikkonen. Not forgetting the constant rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and fellow team mate Fernando Alonso.

All this just makes this a sport worth following, even for a gal like me !

Hi Mavis!

That's so cool that your watch F1! I really wish more women would get into the sport. I have noticed a gradual rise in the number of female Formula One fans over the years, but if more were drawn to the sport, it would round out the audience base nicely.

Have you ever been to a live F1 race?

Yes, the race in Turkey was not bad, but as you say, it was really more about the politics going on within the McLaren team. I know a lot is on the line in F1, but I always feel that it is such a shame that some drivers forget that they are in such a priviledged postion to be driving an F1 car for a living. I have always wanted to be a professional driver since I can remember and I think I would be happy to drive for bread and water if the opportunity arose!

Thanks for your post and keep watching F1!
Stevo

Yeah the politics is somewhat of a distraction. Inevitable with all that exposure and money!

I agree with you Steve, watching a F1 race live is truly an experience. You don't get a real appreciation of the speed and handling of these machines, not to mention the noise.

Mavis, Formula 1 is coming to Singapore in 2008, there's no excuse now. Just don't forget you ear protectors!

Oh I happen to think that there are alot of women in F1! (Remember the beautiful race girls ?) I think they are part of the reason why F1s are so fun to watch in person !

For sure I am going to the Singapore F1 race ! It ishe race slated to happen in 28 Sept 2008. Here is the official link for the race : http://www.f1singapore.com/ (I am still waiting to click on the Reserve your seat link !!)

It will be a night race though, so it would be very challenging to watch, but I doubt I would be feeling sleepy with all that noise and activity happening. The tickets go on sale in Dec 2007. I would definately be trying all ways and means to get one !

I could book a hotel room near the races and watch it in the aircon room, but that would make it no different from watching it on TV, and defeat the whole purpose cause you need to be there in person to experience it, huh !
