I needed a book to read on my recent holiday trip, so I decided to check out the book reviews on Lifespike for recommendations. I came across one of Sacha’s book review Bad Luck and Trouble by Lee Child and decided that the author seemed interesting enough. So I went to the book store and checked out his books.

But instead of picking out the recommended book, I decided to try another book by the same author, Running Blind. The main character is still Jack Reacher. But the plot is different. Jack Reacher is still as suave as ever, much like Macgyver, looks with brains and the women still swoon over him. But he is still as intimidating to the bad guys as ever, physically and mentally.

In Running Blind, he pits his skills against a serial killer of women army personals. The plot thickens when he tries to be a hero but antagonizes the bad guys. The authorities then use that as a bargaining chip for his expert services, seeing as he would not willingly render his services to help them. But the fact that the authorities would go to all the trouble is an indicator of his talent.

What I find fascinating about Jack is not just that he is smart but also the knack that he has for antagonizing people. I am thinking this is a trait of people who know that they are genuinely good at what they do and are not just trying to pull a fast one over people as they go about their daily grind. He almost reminds me of another of my favourite character, Doctor Gregory House in the Fox TV Series “House”, as he would also use his sarcasm at times, as a way of expressing his opinion to people that he works with or to get his point across.

All in all, the book lasted me the whole journey there, during the long coach rides and even some nights after the trip had ended early.  Sad to say the book did not last me for the journey back home as I had already finished reading the book by then.

But needless to say, I am now ready for another installment of Jack Reacher !
