Stardust is a 2007 fantasy film directed by Matthew Vaughn. The film is based on Neil Gaiman's novella of the same name, starring Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer,Claire Danes, Sienna Miller and introducing Charlie Cox. The storyline is really simple and sweet. Triston (Charlie Cox) loves materialistic gal Victoria (Sienna Miller), materialist gal rejects guy for someone “better”. Guy tries to impress girl by offering to pluck down a diamond from the sky (ie. A star). Little does he know that there really are stars and the stars really take human shape, in the form of Yvaine (Clara Danes). Michelle Pfeiffer is spectacular as one of the witches, Lamia. Its no wonder that it was reported she would cry every time she saw herself as the deformed witch make-up. She probably looked like she would envisioned herself at age 100, make that 110. Hell, in fact, I think I would cry if I would I saw myself like that ! The good news is when she is restored to her former youthful self, she is exactly as we would remember Michelle Pfeiffer, the lady who looks like she has taken a youth serum and probably looks better in person than any nubile young thing !
The movie reminds me of Charlie and the chocolate factory in the sense that it has the same kind of fun fantasy elements. At some point, the movie also got alittle colorful in a kiddy sort of way. The imagination also really ran wild with the lighting catcher ship. The moment that has me roaring with laughter in my seat is when Captain Shakespear (Robert DeNiro) reveals his inner girlie self and starts to cross-dress ! Priceless ! All in All, this is a feel good movie. This is not though provoking, which is great for putting you in a relaxing mood. Take the whole concept with a pinch of salt and you will enjoy the light-heartedness and fun factor. Lifespike Rating :
