Another new perfume? Have they all started to smell the same lately? Either richly floral (suitable for your mother-in-law), or sickly sweet, better suited for those pre-pubescent teens overtaking the world. Maybe it’s time for something slightly, but not dramatically, different. Next time you’re shopping stop over at a fragrance counter and try Daisy by Marc Jacobs. I think you might be surprised.

Contrary to the name, the scent is not particularly reminiscent of daisies. The first thing you’ll notice upon ‘spritzing’ is a fruit basket. Mainly strawberry and grapefruit, but also something a little more intriguing. If you’re not one for smelling like a punchbowl, let the fragrance settle for about 3-4 minutes and you’ll sample the intrigue – jasmine. Not the cloying hothouse type, but the fresh just-brushed-past-the-jasmine-in-the-garden type. Much softer and even…sexy. Add to that the gardenia and softer violet, and sexy is definitely the key word here. The fruit settles to a soft and fresh floral. Note the freshness, it’s important in this fragrance. Finally, the base notes of vanilla and musk will have the scent linger on the skin without it attracting any unwanted attention. It’s important to point out here that the vanilla and musks of today are far different from those of yesteryear fragrances. These ingredients tend to add to the overall experience of the scent in modern fragrances, rather than being all you, and all those around you, can smell for days! In Daisy the vanilla and musk notes give it a slightly more earthy flavour, more woman than scented alcohol.

Is Daisy for every taste? Of course not, I doubt anyone could find a fragrance that is! But what Daisy does provide is a grown-up opportunity to smell fresh yet still sexy, without having to resort to a Britney or Paris for that young-appeal! Out of the many new releases in the lead-up to Christmas, I think Daisy very much holds its own.

Range consists of 50ml (1.7OZ) and 100ml (3.4OZ) Eau de Toilette Spray, Shower Gel, Body Lotion and Velvet Body Butter (my personal fave accessory to the fragrance).
