Sitting above McDonald's and the like on the fast food pecking order yet without prime locations of Wagamama, Pepper Lunch is an enticing prospect for those looking for a quick meal. Pepper Lunch is light and bright as are most facets of Japan life. A first time visitor may be intimidated with so many choices, yet spend a couple minutes persusing the menu and a few dishes start to stand out. If you are dining with friends, ensure that at least one of you tries a Pepper Rice dish. Pepper rice dishes include : 1 Beef Pepper Rice 2 Curry Beef Pepper Rice 3. Salmon Pepper Rice
My dining partner opted for Salmon pepper rice. My question, where do the folks at Pepper Lunch get their pepper? It was seriously good stuff. No powdered pre processed nonsense, but freshly ground pepper. Salmon pepper rice arrives in sizzling splendour, with fresh morsels of salmon sitting on a mountain of rice. Your choice, do you eat your salmon sashimi style or opt for slightly cooked through salmon? I thought it was a neat concept where the kitchen does half the cooking and you complete it. Similarly my Shimofuri steak arrived sizzling and half cooked, smeared with a generous amount of mustard, accompanied by bean sprouts(mung beans), mashed potatoes, green beans and rice. The meat was so tender, yet the marinades did not mask the flavours of the beef. Pepper Lunch takes meat and three veg to a new level in my mind. Again the folks from Japan take an essentially western dish and add a unique Japanese interpretation. If you are wanting more, not that I needed anymore after completing my generous portion you can also opt for reasonably priced salads. Additionally for a couple coins, you can have a miso soup or seasonal soup. A green tea ice cream would not have gone astray, but you can complete your meal with a Cappuccino or Latte. Impressive!
Service was exceptional at Pepper Lunch. The server noticed my clumsiness with chopsticks, and proceeded to show me how it was done. A friendly disposition displayed by all stuff made Pepper Lunch a fleeting yet much enjoyed experience.
