One of the advantages of Singapore of being at the cross roads of Asia is the melting pot of cultures and influences that make up the Singapore society. But I didn't realise that the melting pot reached the far shores of South America as well. On my last trip to Singapore, I had the chance to check out a restaurant called Brazil Churrascaria located in the suburb of Bukit Timah. The restaurant is only a short taxi ride from Orchard Road and is located at one end of Sixth Avenue which has cluster of restaurants. All the taxi drivers will know where this is.
I need to rely on my favourite online encyclopedia, Wikipedia , to supply a definition of churrascaria : A churrascaria is a Brazilian or Portuguese steakhouse. Churrasco is the cooking style, which translates roughly from the Portuguese for barbecue.
The Brazil Churrascaria in Singapore is quite a popular restaurant with both locals and expats living in Singapore. I went there on a Thursday night and the restaurant was quite full. It's quite a pleasant place with a very friendly staff. The deal at the Brazil Churrascaria is that they offer a buffet menu and it was very reasonably priced - only S$38 per person. They have a salad bar which is average but you're really there for the barbeque.
The manner in which food is served is quite interesting. The waitering staff are constantly moving throughtout the restaurant serving various barbeques on huge skewers which they carve on your plate for you. The great thing which I liked is that you really don't know what you are going to get next as each waiter is carrying a different skewered meat. I don't really know the proper names of each of the barbeque meats which they served but they were scrumptious and not over cooked. The only ones which I avoided were the more non-traditional meat such as the various insides of chicken. Overall, the Brazil Churrascaria offers a very unique and friendly dining experience in the center of Asia and I highly recommend this restaurant.
